Avocados in my hair?

When I created my blog, I knew I needed a catchy title which inadvertently described me.  It took a few days to brainstorm and play with words.  Since I am an elementary reading teacher, I LOVE words!  I came up with the name "AvoCAdos in my hair" for the following reasons:

1.  My husband and I met 12 years ago, but lost touch and then were later reconnected in life by a mutual friend.  Before we started dating, I do not think I had ever even tasted an avocado; it was green, slimy, and let's face it...not too attractive.  One day, while we were dating, Mr. David (my husband) made homemade guacamole.  It was love at first sight (literally)!  We have since perfected the guacamole recipe, which accommodates every one of our Kansas City Chiefs tailgates.

2.  I mentioned that I do not have any children of my own, but I do have the most amazing nephew.  Owen, whom I like to say was named after the Kevin Henkes book, lives in Wisconsin (my home state) with his parents.  I truly believe that I fell in love with this child the first time I saw him which was when my sister was about 16 weeks pregnant.  At this time, he was approximately the size of an avocado in the womb.  I had no idea how much this individual was about to change my life, but I knew, I loved him.

3.  Speaking of Owen, guess what one of his favorite foods is?  Avocados!  Who would have thought that a seventeen month old would love that green, slimy, non-attractive food?  Owen becomes so overjoyed while eating avocados that he mashes them all over his face and even in his...HAIR!  This site brings tears to the eyes of anyone who witnesses!

4.  Lastly, if you look at the word avocado (remember I said I love to play with words), you will see that I capitalized two letters.  Those two letters are the initials in my name.  :)

Funny how in the last few statements I have told a whole lot about myself just by talking about "AvoCAdos in my hair"!
