Avocados in my hair?

When I created my blog, I knew I needed a catchy title which inadvertently described me.  It took a few days to brainstorm and play with words.  Since I am an elementary reading teacher, I LOVE words!  I came up with the name "AvoCAdos in my hair" for the following reasons:

1.  My husband and I met 12 years ago, but lost touch and then were later reconnected in life by a mutual friend.  Before we started dating, I do not think I had ever even tasted an avocado; it was green, slimy, and let's face it...not too attractive.  One day, while we were dating, Mr. David (my husband) made homemade guacamole.  It was love at first sight (literally)!  We have since perfected the guacamole recipe, which accommodates every one of our Kansas City Chiefs tailgates.

2.  I mentioned that I do not have any children of my own, but I do have the most amazing nephew.  Owen, whom I like to say was named after the Kevin Henkes book, lives in Wisconsin (my home state) with his parents.  I truly believe that I fell in love with this child the first time I saw him which was when my sister was about 16 weeks pregnant.  At this time, he was approximately the size of an avocado in the womb.  I had no idea how much this individual was about to change my life, but I knew, I loved him.

3.  Speaking of Owen, guess what one of his favorite foods is?  Avocados!  Who would have thought that a seventeen month old would love that green, slimy, non-attractive food?  Owen becomes so overjoyed while eating avocados that he mashes them all over his face and even in his...HAIR!  This site brings tears to the eyes of anyone who witnesses!

4.  Lastly, if you look at the word avocado (remember I said I love to play with words), you will see that I capitalized two letters.  Those two letters are the initials in my name.  :)

Funny how in the last few statements I have told a whole lot about myself just by talking about "AvoCAdos in my hair"!

My new blog...

I'm an elementary reading teacher and inevitably our school district has snow days during the winter.   Since I live in Kansas (where the local and state government is not very prepared for snow) we have quite a few snow days in a row each and every January.  My teacher colleagues spend the time off with their own children.  Since I do not have kids of my own, I spend my time on the internet OR thinking of brilliant new ideas.  Last week, as I was couped up at home for three days due to yes...snow and cold temperatures, I began to discover the overwhelming amount of blogs that educate, inspire, and entertain people across the world.  I instantly became intrigued and literally yelled, "Yes, this is my new bright idea!"  Soon after, I was disappointed in myself for not having paid attention in my Computer Programming 101 class back in college about 10 years ago.  That was the only class in my entire schooling career where I earned the grade of a C+.  It was devastating!  After the lecture about "Someday you will need that information that you failed to pay attention to.." from my dad, he took my car away as punishment.  Yes, I was a sophomore in college and my dad had the power and ability to take away my car.  My dad is another story, but someday I will tell you more about him.  Anyway, back to the computer programming bit...in the last few days, I learned how absolutely difficult it is to create a blog to my ever-so-high standards.  I keep reminding myself that I can not always be so detail-oriented.  Well, this blog may not be as beautiful as I would like it to be at this point, but I will continue to google, read, learn, and hopefully computer program so someday it's just the way I envision...perfect!  Yes folks, I am an obsessive, compulsive perfectionist and that is why I created this blog.  I want to share all of my crazy organized and perfected ideas that I create each and every day in my life, home, and classroom.  Some may think that I am crazy, but some may get totally inspired...
